Thinking Out Loud........
Welcome to our first “Life after Penrose” Newsletter. In what could only be described as a move of gigantic proportions the old firm finally shifted the last remnants of its 50 odd year tenancy from the building in Penrose. It was an interesting experience to stand in the empty building just prior to closing the door for the last time. A variety of thoughts crossed my mind but regret was not one of them, more thoughts based on “we didn’t need all this space!”

The reasons why we had it all hark back to the “good old days” and the founder, a young Len Perry. In the 1950’s Len, with the enthusiasm of youth and an already established business decided to put the building up and grow his enterprise. Well, we all know things don’t always go to plan and so for a variety of reasons the original Airsail operation didn’t quite cut it as expected. Over the passage of time however, the building served us well but for me the positive side of shifting is that it already has a new tenant, someone with that same enthusiasm and drive. We have ourselves a different situation and are so pleased that we no longer travel to fro across the Auckland Harbour Bridge on a daily basis. Life is still very frustrating trying to fins everything but I’m assured by lovely wife that it will get better!

With this change the structure of Airsail has been reorganized. We are no longer a walk shop but are working to provide goods and services for builders and flyers alike via the website, email or regular mail and phone calls. We’ve joined the ranks of those who operate from a “Home Office”. We have a base stock and dispatch area on site but we also have our bulk stock facility which consists of a number of commercial storage units in the Wairou Industrial area. There is a strong emphasis on Trade supply to retail outlets around the country.

Our range of Airsail Kits will continue but with a change to laser cutting as opposed to die cutting. (The old printing/cutting presses were casualties of the shift. No home could be found for them so they were taken away by a scrap merchant.) The change to laser cut kits will result in a better quality product not only in terms of the actual cut but also in the selection of wood and the visual impact. The process allows lighter softer grades of wood to be used, which if it were die-cut, would result more in crushing rather than cutting …we’ve all seen it before.

To all our customers, internet or otherwise, we thank you for your continued support and for your patience with us and our website. We’re well aware of some shortcomings associated with us moving ….. we hope those will evaporate with the passage of time and our attention to service and experienced advice. Many people out there have been of the mistaken belief that we were closing up altogether … nothing could be further from the truth. With regards the website, we’ll be working to improve this as we can.

Not all that glitters is necessarily 2.4Ghz.

JR are running specials with stocks of these 5 Channel, 72 Mhz, FM, Mode1 sets …TX, RX (R700) and 3 x 539 Servos . We have attached a “JR New Zealand” Servo Sheet. This details the regular JR Servos available in this country. These servos are drawn from Japanese stocks so there’s seldom any delays in restocking. Remember also, that 99% of the JR servos sold by American outlets are simply re-numbered JR servos for the US market …it’s the U.S. “we’ve got to be different” philosophy! We have all the servos you need and will ad to as new items become available.
